In February, South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) handled 202,349 TEUs and 111,902 pier containers, showing a slight increase compared to the same month in 2023.
Importantly, loaded import TEUs rose by 11% compared to the previous February, indicating strength in the overall economy.
Inland port and rail volumes remained consistently strong. Inland Port Greer saw a significant 26% increase in rail moves last month, totaling 15,801 moves compared to the previous year. Similarly, Inland Port Dillon experienced a 13% rise in rail moves, reaching 4,147 moves. Year-to-date, the two rail-served inland ports have seen remarkable growth, with a combined 34% increase compared to the previous year, handling 151,324 containers collectively.
Additionally, SC Ports processed 15,555 vehicles in February, reflecting a 2% decline compared to the previous year. Despite this, the vehicle segment has shown significant growth of 16% during fiscal year 2024, with a total of 144,415 vehicles passing through the docks since July.
Moreover, South Carolina Ports efficiently handled large vessels and increased container volumes at the Wando Welch Terminal, as imports experienced a resurgence.
